It seems odd taking pictures of negatives but without spending ~$15-$25 per scan this is about as close as I’m going to get seeing some of my old, large format photos on the computer. I never thought about taking pictures of my old slides until I read and article about a large format portrait photographer who would use his DSLR to take pictures of his negatives/positives once they were processed.

These are a few of my old 4”x5” large format photographs that I’d like to get scanned but taking pictures of them is the next best thing. I brought them into Lightroom and did some editing to try to recreate the look of the slides on the lightbox. These pictures don’t do the real thing any justice - these slides are pin sharp and have way more detail than my D90 can come close to capturing.

I talked to a photographer at work and he said that there’s a 4”x5” view camera in the studio that I could borrow. I can’t wait to get my hands on it - all he said I’d need is some film and some film holders…oh, and the time to actually use it.
