Is Pixmonix better than Scancafe?
I just submitted an order to Pixmonix to have them scan 60 of my old slides and I can’t wait to see how they turn out. A few months ago I sent 60 other slides to ScanCafe which was my first time to ever have any of my old slides professionally scanned. The reason I went with Pixmonix this time around is because I wasn’t too impressed with the scan quality of my slides from ScanCafe.
Maybe I was expecting too much from my original order but a couple of the slides are washed out (highlights are blown out) and a couple other slides have lines across the image that are not on the original slide. One of the slides with the line across is isn’t too bad and it can be cloned out in Lightroom but the other slide has more of a smear across it that will take a little more work to remove.
I’m excited about this Pixmonix order for a few reasons:
- It costs about the same as Scancafe
- The order includes .tiff files at no additional charge
- The order is not shipped to India
- A printed contact sheet is included with the order
So, more to come on what I think about Pixmonix verses Scancafe when it comes to scanning my old slides. If these slides and files come back looking much better than the ones I received from Scancafe I just might send the other ones to Pixmoix to be rescanned.
