Pixmonix vs ScanCafe Part II

Pixmonix preview image

Not too long ago I asked, “Is Pixmonix better than Scancafe?” after placing a 60 slide order with Pixmonix. Well, within a short 2 weeks, Pixmonix received and scanned my slides and had my previews online ready for my review. With Scancafe, that process took at least 6-7 weeks and then I waited another couple of weeks to get my slides and CD. With Pixmonix, I placed my order, for all 60 slides, on Tuesday and by 2pm that afternoon I received and email stating that my package had been shipped back.

I took the image above from my order page where I can review my slides before placing my order. And, although it’s a small, low-res sample of the scan, I can already tell that the colors and overall quality of the scans are going to be better than what I received from Scancafe. I remember seeing my previews from Scancafe and immediately thinking that the images looked so-so and they weren’t exactly what I saw in my original slides.

I’m hoping to receive my files and images by the end of the week or early next week. Until then, I can’t make a final judgment between the two services although my experiences so far favor Pixmonix.Stay tuned as I’ll be sure and share my final thoughts on Pixmonix vs Scancafe.

I’m still needing to get quite a few (~100) black and white negatives scanned and if these scans from Pixmonix are as good as I think they are, then I won’t hesitate to use them again. However, I’ve also heard good things about DigMyPics.com, so I might give them a run. I wish I had the time and money to have all three places scan all my stuff so I can pick the best image out of the bunch…wouldn’t that be nice.
