Summer Pierre’s The Artist in the Office is a down-to-earth and refreshing book about artist who juggles two jobs: the job that pays the bills and the job they love doing. I ordered a copy, it’s only ~$10, which arrived last Friday and I finished reading it over lunch on Monday. I’m a terribly slow reader but the book flowed well and kept my attention throughout each page.

The author, Summer Pierre, is a writer, musician, and an artist who, like many of us, had to balance a real job to pay the bills with the job of growing and expanding her creative side at the same time. While reading this book I felt as if Summer interviewed me and shared my feelings about the ups and downs on balancing a real job with growing my photography on the side.

The tag line of the book is How to Creatively Survive and Thrive Seven Days a Week and Summer discusses many way that an artist can squeeze more creativity into their daily routine while looking for the good things that a real job provides for you. If you’ve ever felt like other artists have it easy and they don’t work two job, or if you struggle the “what’s the point?” mentality then I suggest you pick up a copy and work through all the “Try this” exercises.
